cosmo karaoke

the europeans landed in osaka on friday and we went out to play: firstly for a feast, then the mandatory karaoke. should you ever wonder what you might get should you cross a luxemburger, a japanese, an italian and a scotsman in a karaoke booth - it's not a pretty picture - basically a howling mess where everyone picks songs that are in too high a key and far too long. great fun!
we promised dunja and andrea some decent tucker since, lets face it, they came all the way to osaka and that's all we have here! osaka does so it well though. we went to a decent local izakaya and yuka ordered one of everything - I tried raw seafood for the first time (being allergic to fish usually sees me steering clear) and the shrimp I had was a creamy delight - a world away from it's cooked form. I bypassed the brains but the eggs I found in one had a pretty nice texture. then it was lots of beers and karaoke.
there's a few truths about the old karaoke: firstly, you always stay much longer than you imagine (andrea and I could have possibly managed another 2 hours). secondly, someone always surprises you with their singing ability (last night it was andrea). you also get a reminder of your age and as the pickings were (amoungst others) the style council, roxy music and nena - it was a little shocking! having some multilingual company meant dunja busted out a great rendition of 99 luftballons in german.
a fun couple of days and fantastic company......
