Real Slow
I really love trains. Seeing my dad off on the old fossil fuel locomotives with their compartments, the means of escape to the big city as a teenager, the way to travel through Europe by seeing places and meeting people, the disbelief of a shinkansen approaching for the first time, getting on one as you would a plane and seeing the sky when you bank, sitting at a table with an ever changing view and having no-where to go. gradually arriving somewhere and understanding the climate, architecture and agriculture before you meet the people.
On Wednesday a few colleagues and I went down to London to recce a few fashion exhibitions prior to getting our teeth into the upcoming Jean Muir retrospective in November. For anyone vaguely interested - Viktor & Rolf at the Barbican - yes - lots of good AV, ideas and freaky models. Skin and Bones at Sommerset house - yes - well considered design with current examples - money's worth. Little Black Dress at the London Fashion Museum - wouldn't bother the fiver - unless you just want to look at little black dresses (not much extra info / images with these).
First class on GNER is old skool but just how it should be. chunky sprung seats, table lights and coffee service. It's an awfully romantic method of travelling and, like the ferry, I don't think that will ever change.
