decisions

In design it is hard to know how the outcome of a project will be received - you can never predict - especially when it is a prevalent subject. You can have a good guess if an idea is simple and effective enough. Frankly, you know in your head when a concept hits the target or fails, straight away. The ideal is not always reached but the best attempt made.
Saatchi's Tory posters in 79, with their clever word play and realism hit a chord with a disgruntled nation.
You can imagine the delight (and the pound signs in the eyes) on the face of the Saatchi's when they hit on this one.
Cut to 30 years later and whilst still straining to understand real Britain, a nationwide pre-election campaign is based on an airbrushed 15 foot portrait of their leader David Cameron. They're not directly hitting Labour (no doubt repelling the voter) which is commendable, but a 15 foot portrait of an Etonian - will that really do it? Probably.
I love the image above because, despite the hundreds of grand the ad agency is getting for the idea, a lone protester making no financial gain at all, manages to command national press and as much influence over the country. Goan yersel wee man!
